Everything You Need to Know About the 2019 Dafabet Snooker Masters

The Dafabet Snooker Masters is a snooker tournament that is held at the start of every year. In 2019, it will be held between the 13th and 19th of January. The tournament will be the second Triple Crown event in 2018/2019. The defending champion this year is Mark Allen. Mark won his first tournament in 2018 after defeating Kyren Wilson, and this was his first time winning a Triple Crown trophy.

History of the Snooker Masters Tournament Event

The Snooker Masters tournament has gained popularity over the past few years. In 2018, tickets for the event were sold out well in advance. The tournament was started in 1975 and was initially sponsored by Benson and Hedges, a cigarette company. In this particular year, 10 players convened at the West Centre Hotel for the game. John Spencer was the first winner of the event. The number of players was increased in 1981 to 12, and in 1983, it was raised to 16. The tournament still involves 16 of the top players in the world rankings of snooker.

One of the notable moments in the tournament was in the 1998 tournament when Mike Hallet was whitewashed in the finals. He lost 9-0. No other player has ever been whitewashed in a Masters final. Another interesting moment was when Kirk Stevens made a maximum break against Jimmy White in the semi-finals.

In 2004, Benson and Hedges were no longer able to sponsor the snooker tournament because of the UK restriction on tobacco advertising. That particular year, the event did not have a sponsor. In 2005, the Rileys Club started sponsoring the event. Since 2014, the tournament has been sponsored by Dafabet, an online gambling company based in the Philippines.

This Year’s Favourite – Ronnie O’Sullivan

Ronnie O’Sullivan is regarded as one of the greatest snooker players in the world. He was the defending champion in the 2018 Masters tournament but was defeated by Mark Allen in the quarterfinals. Ronnie has been in the tournament since 2004. He appeared in four consecutive finals of the tournament from 2004 to 2007. However, he only won two of these events. His first win was in 2005, and the following year, the tournament featured a very high standard of play. Ronnie won his seventh Masters title in 2017, and that was the last finals he has been involved in.
