What Is Asian Handicap 1?

Asian Handicap 1 will allow you to bet on a particular team to win, at the same time as giving them a one-goal handicap or advantage. This means that the team you are betting on for -1 will have to win by at least two goals for you to get a return on your stake. If the team only wins by a single goal, your stake will be refunded. If you are betting on a team with a +1 goal tally, you will get a return on your stake if you selection draws or better. If they only lose by a single goal, the stake will be refunded.

When using Asian Handicap 1, the match will either start at minus one goal to nil or one goal to nil.

How to Use Asian Handicap 1

If for example, you are placing a bet on a game that involves Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. The odds for the home team (West Ham United) are 1.85; and the odds for the away team (Tottenham Hotspur) being 1.92.

You make a £50 bet for West Ham United to get the victory, having the Asian Handicap of +1, at the odds of 1.85. This means that for you to win the bet, West Ham United will have to lose draw or win as they have a one-goal lead starting off the game.

If West Ham United manage to win or draw the game, you will make a return of £50 x 1.85 = £92.50. This means that your profit will be £92.50 – £50 = £42.50.

If West Ham United manages to lose the match by no more than one goal, you get your initial stake back; as it is draw no bet rules. If West Ham United loses the game by more than two goals, you will suffer a loss of £50, the stake of your bet.

It is a similar situation if you are betting on Tottenham Hotspur to win the game with a -1 handicap. You need Tottenham Hotspur to win the game by more than one goal for you to make a return on your bet. If they only manage to win by a single goal, you will get your money back thanks to the draw no bet rules. If Tottenham Hotspur draw or lose the game, you will have lost your stake of £50.

Certain sportsbooks will call Asian Handicap 1 by different names, most commonly calling it simply the +-1 handicap.

The Impact of Asian Handicap 1 on the Betting Odds

Due to the fact that one of the three outcomes is no longer an option, the odds will not be as good when you are deciding on which team you will pick to win. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use this type of bet, as if you’re using an Asian Handicap 1, the empirical chances of you seeing a return are a lot higher, in comparison to if you were not using any type of Asian Handicap and simply betting on the outright market.

When it comes to using fixed odds when betting, the average chance of a payout will be around 93%. When it comes to using Asian Handicap 1 betting, you have an average of a 97% chance of a payout. The difference between the two is substantial, especially in the long term. This will make it much easier for you to find value bets, as well as achieving greater returns.

Tips for Using Asian Handicap 1

Asian Handicap 1 is a great way of hedging your bets. While there are many different strategies you can implement, there is one particular one that is commonly used amongst betting professionals. Often when a team are playing in an away ground and they score an away goal, this is a great opportunity where you can use Asian Handicap 1 to hedge your bets. Very often, the away team will try to protect their lead by sitting back until the final whistle.

If one of the teams is only leading by a single goal, there will always be a chance that the other team will grab an equaliser. As a result, if you use an Asian Handicap 1 to hedge your bets when this happens, you are covering yourself on most bases.

Keep in mind that anything can happen in football, so you can never act with 100% certainty that the bet is going to work out. However, by employing this strategy, you are able to swing the odds in your favour and make greater returns over the long run.
