After all the talk outside of the ring, AJ and The Gypsy King will finally clash to see who will become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World unifying the WBO, WBA IBF WBC heavyweight titles. Both fighters are coming off big wins and sports fans around the world will at long last get the chance to see the heavyweights come face to face in the ring and become the ultimate champion.

The Matchup

Tyson Fury, better known as the Gypsy King to his hordes of fans, last stepped into the ring for his 31st contest in February last year producing his most destructive performance as of yet to defeat Deontay Wilder. Fury pummelled Deontay Wilder for seven rounds putting him on the canvas twice, in both the third round and the fifth round. Not just a title win, this was Tyson Fury at his very best, destroying Deontay Wilder with a tactical masterclass, making a statement to the boxing world and more importantly a statement to Anthony Joshua.

In a professional career spanning 13 years, Fury has an unbeaten record with 31 fights, 30 wins and one draw, winning 21 of those fights by knockout. Throughout his career the Gypsy King has struggled on and off with mental health problems, fighting with depression and alcohol, causing big changes in his weight gains and loss.

However, it’s clear to see that he is currently in great physical and mental condition, looking extremely fit and confident, he will be heading into this fight in peak condition and as usual, he is already talking a good fight. In Fury’s words “no one wants to see a Gypsy win”.Tyson will not want to relinquish any of his titles to Anthony Joshua, if these were to be his last fights, Tyson Fury will want to finish at the top, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, never beaten in the ring!

Fury’s British rival, Anthony Joshua started his career 5 years later than Fury after having made his name winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics. His professional career consists of 25 fights, winning 24, 22 by knockout and with one surprise loss to the American Andy Ruiz Jr, Joshua was put on the canvas four times in his debut American bout. The rematch saw AJ put on a boxing masterclass, dominating Andy Ruiz and reclaiming his belts at his first attempt.

Joshua’s standout victory that propelled him to stardom was his win over legendary Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko. The fight saw Anthony Joshua retain his IBF heavyweight title and take the WBA and IBO titles from Klitschko. Joshua’s last victory came emphatically over Kubrat Pulev, knocking out the Bulgarian in the 9th round. Beating Kubrat Pulev in style has removed any obstacles stopping his camp make the deal to face Tyson Fury for the mega-fight of 2021.

It’s easy to see why sports fans have been looking forward to this match up with so much anticipation. With both fighters fully fit and in peak condition, there is not much to separate them, even though much of the betting is seeing the money going on Fury making him the slight favourite. Both fighters are orthodox in stance, Tyson Fury with a slim height and weight advantage. However, Anthony Joshua has age on his side, his athletic physic and stamina promise to be an obstacle for Tyson Fury.
